Into Thin Air Post 1

“Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer is a novel about a personal account of a Mount Everest Disaster. It starts off as a man climbing Mount Everest and experiencing all of the miserable things about the climb. Krakauer explains the fantasizing moment but also the 6 weeks of pain and energy being taken for the one moment of being at the summit of Mount Everest.

Krakauer explains in his book the pain he was feeling during the roughest part of the climb. he then reaches the summit of Everest and does not even have the energy to realize his accomplishment and that feeling was not what he was expecting at that moment. “I understood on some dim, detached level that the sweep of earth beneath my feet was a spectacular sight. I’d been fantasizing about this moment, and the release of emotion that would accompany it, for many months. But now that I was finally here, actually standing on the summit of Mount Everest, I just couldn’t summon the energy to care.”

Just like Krakauer was feelings at that moment, the tiredness and miserable feelings is relatable to me with volleyball. It was almost the end of the season and we had made it to the State Tournament. When we finally made it to our hotel and slept for a few hours we began to work for that win. It was the last game of the tournament to determine if we were state champions. We ended up beating the team in 3 games! But we were all so delusional that it took us a few days to realize that we were state champions. In the moment it was cool butte were not able to realize how amazing, important and valuable that accomplishment was. Can tiredness affect how we view things in life at the moment? Yes it can because we knew that winning was something we needed to do and that was our goal but then after taking time to think about that accomplishment made us realize that working for something hard enough can get you there so that experience taught everyone something very important and new that everyone needs to know and learn about.
